When you're trying to set your home apart amidst a crowded and competitive housing sales market, one of the things you need to consider is the general curb appeal. The first thing buyers will see in your house is the landscaping, so you need to be sure that it draws people in instead of driving them away. If you've been putting it off because you don't have the budget for it, there are some things you can do in a really cost-effective way. Here are some tips to touch up your landscape without stretching your budget.
Start with a general cleanup. Cleaning up your yard can make a big difference in the overall appearance. Take some time to cut the grass and rake up all of the grass trimmings. Rake up any leaves, sticks or other debris so that your yard is neat. Look for any areas where there might be dead grass, brown patches or other issues. Apply fresh grass seed if you're in a growing season. The sooner you spread the grass seed, the sooner you'll start seeing grass sprout in those spaces.
Pull any weeds and prune the bushes and trees. Any time you have overgrown or unkempt shrubs on your property, it can make the whole area look sloppy and unattractive. Trim back any overgrown, damaged or broken limbs and shrubs to clean things up. While you're at it, inspect your flower beds for any excess weed growth. Weeds overtaking your garden will make it look messy and neglected, as will any dying plants. Keep up with the weeding on a weekly basis, or at least before every showing.
Fill in any empty spaces in the yard with colorful plants. Adding flowering bushes or new patches of flowers will help add some color and life to your yard. Consider using containers if you don't want to create a whole new flower bed. Just opt for things that are fairly low maintenance, such as rose bushes in containers, because that will keep weeds at bay while still allowing the plants to flourish.
With the tips presented here, you'll be in a better position to create a balanced, attractive yard. When you're listing your house for sale, this is an important consideration, because it is one of the first factors that prospective buyers will judge. Consider working with your real estate agent to determine how your yard will best complement your home. Especially when you're dealing with single family homes, curb appeal is important.Share
